What Is Across Protocol in Gem Wallet?

What Is Across Protocol?

Across Protocol is a fast bridge between Ethereum and other networks. Relayers deliver your funds on the destination network right away and are repaid later by the protocol, so most Across transfers finish in seconds to a few minutes.

When you swap, Gem Wallet asks all supported swap providers for a quote at once and picks the best one. Across Protocol is used when it gives the best quote for your pair, or when you choose it yourself under Providers on the swap screen. To see which provider a swap uses, open Details on the swap screen. See How to Select a Swap Provider in Gem Wallet.

Supported Networks

Gem Wallet uses Across Protocol for cross-chain swaps between: Ethereum, Arbitrum, Optimism, Base, Polygon, Avalanche C-Chain, BNB Chain, Linea, zkSync, World Chain, Ink, Unichain, Monad, HyperEVM, Plasma, Robinhood Chain, Arc, and TRON.

Assets: Mainly ETH, WETH, USDC, USDC.e, USDT, and USDT0, depending on the route. Recent additions include USDT0 on Unichain, USDC on Ink, Linea, and World Chain, and USDC.e on zkSync. USDT on Base isn't offered through Across.

Why Gem Wallet Often Picks Across

Across relayers deliver on the destination network within seconds, so Gem Wallet ranks an Across quote first when it's within 0.1% (10 basis points) of the best quote. You can still choose another provider under Providers on the swap screen.

note

A pair only appears when the provider returns a live quote for it. Liquidity, amount limits, and route availability can change at any time.

Refunds

If no relayer fills your transfer before it expires, Across refunds it to your address on the source network. Across refunds are settled in batches and can take several hours.

Track an Across Protocol Swap

  1. Open the swap in Activity.
  2. The status shows Pending while Across Protocol completes the swap, then Completed, Refunded, or Failed.
  3. Open the transaction details and use the Across link to follow the swap on across.to.

For what each status means and how long to wait, see What Do Cross-Chain Swap Statuses Mean?. If the swap was refunded, see What Does a Refunded Cross-Chain Swap Mean?.

Need Help With a Swap?

Contact Gem Wallet support from Settings > Support in the app, and include the transaction ID of your swap. Before you share anything, read What Information Is Safe to Give Wallet Support?.

warning

Gem Wallet support will never send you a direct message first, ask for your Secret Phrase or private key, or ask you to send funds to "fix" a swap. Anyone who does is a scammer.
